Sutherland Group

Sutherland OWN, has expanded from a small group of ten interested and enthusiastic women to around forty, who meet twice each month for both pleasure and business.

Our excursions have seen us float round the wonderful Harbour on a pre-Christmas cruise, enjoying a sing-and-dance-a-long on board before being greeted with an Airforce Flypast - maybe it did have links to Rugby World Cup, but we prefer to think it was for us! Two bus loads from our group, with some members from the Wellness Centre, marvelled at the performance of Women Centre Stage at Campbelltown during Seniors Week, and have been inspired to form a performance group among Wellness Centre members in the near future.

Thanks to our hardworking Social Committee we also rowed up the river to discover the historic beauty of Parramatta, and in June toured the Jewish Museum.

During Seniors Week celebrations in our local area we took the opportunity to distributed lots of flyers at an Information Day. Our fundraising efforts, which usually end up as 'fun raising' too, have been shared with members of our Wellness Centre: three days at the Sutherland Seniors Art and Craft Festival and a very wet but happy half-day at the Kids' Picnic Day at the local Trade Union Club.

Monthly luncheons have been followed by some fabulous discussions on such topics as OWN and Feminism, and Wonderful Places to Spend Time. We have enjoyed discussing Life Changes, and look forward to many more enjoyable exchanges.

In the past year we have sent delegates and observers to both the OWN NSW Annual Conference and to the OWN Australia Conference in Canberra. We have been guests at birthday celebrations for both Illawarra and Newcastle OWN groups - events we thoroughly enjoyed.
