Newcastle Group

A social occasion!

Our group began in 1992 and currently has thirty-four members. Annual membership of our group is $20, which covers meeting costs, monthly minutes and a newsletter to keep members up-to-date with issues, activities and available facilities in our area.

On the first Thursday of each month we meet at Devonshire House, Newcastle. Following a business meeting (and a 'cuppa') we have a discussion or a guest speaker; then we go out to lunch. We often take action on concerns involving issues such as health services and public transport. We are represented on many local committees, covering issues such as Community Safety, Positive Ageing, and Seniors Week.

We enjoy many extra activities, such as social gatherings and outings. We offer a weekly Gentle Exercise class to members and visitors, and a Craft Group meets monthly at a member's home.

Every May, we have a special event to celebrate our collective birthdays. In 2004 we organized a special weekend get-together for members of all OWN groups at Myuna Bay Sport & Recreation Camp. For the last three years we have organized a special Seniors Week event in Newcastle.
